My 2nd Documentary “The Move”
My Second Documentary is about Chess “The MOVE”I would like to share my preparation for my upcoming documentary. This documentary is an interactive journey about learning the stages of development of Chess. I always wanted to learn how to play and excel in this game (as it originated in India and spread to Persia). I will go through the history of Chess along with my personal journey of learning the game and explaining it to my children.
I chose the Interactive mode because I want to show two stories running together. One story will be about my learning of the game and other story will throw some light on the intellectual part of this game and its importance to the people who spent their lives playing this.
The documentary will involve a personal journey speaking to the camera while going on some sort of learning adventures. I believe that Chess is not a simple game. I chose this topic after being inspired by watching Satyajith Ray’s movie “Chess players”.
I will take a lot of macro shots of interesting moves of chess and chessboards and draw parallels between political moves and how media is used as pawns, archival footage of deep blue, still images of chess masters and playing the game with my son as he is learning as well.
I will use Eastern Indian music and Persian soundtracks as an audio element in my documentary.

Job shadow
Today, I spent one hour at Rogers TV for my job shadow assignment. We witnessed a daytime talk show which was hosted by Susan Cook- Scheerer and Jay Chagnon was the Co- host of that show.
Daytime is an hour talk show that takes place between 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. the show consists of many interesting stuff like they introduce local guests and one can get expert advice on various issues. One can watch many tasty recipes as well. It’s quite informative show that provides information on what is happening in the community, who’s who, and what’s food stuff in and around Waterloo Region.
During my visit to the show, they had a group of kids from Homeless Shelter. At the beginning the kids were look quite anxious but later the co-host, Jay Chagnon made them relaxed with his funny talk making jokes. Jay has got a very pleasant personality that is a key characteristic for doing a talk show to make the audience interested in the happening in the show.
The studio I visited was a small one like our college studio. We had a round of the studio witnessed some cooking recipes while they were preparing their lunches in the kitchen. Generally it was an interesting visit and I enjoyed it. I learned that running a TV show is a real team work. Everyone is important at his place. One person`s mistake or negligence could spoil the whole show.

Cultural adaptation in Canadian society
Merging in a new culture is always exciting and gives feelings of enthusiasm. Everything looks new when the newly immigrated persons enters in a different surrounding in Canada. With the passage of time they realize the difficulty to adapt this new cultural and social environment. They need to learn new language, cultural and social way of doing things, rules and regulations and societal expectations from a newly entered member in certain society.
The new immigrants usually feel lack of confidence while verbally expressing themselves using English language because they are unaware of local slangs and vocal expressions in Canada. They also find problems understanding the local pronunciations.
In Canada, there is a variety of new immigrants with different cultural backgrounds including language, clothing, food, expressions and cultural manners. Especially the south Asian culture is entirely different.
The religious practices are allowed but they need to restrict their voices to the building where these practices are done, which is not the case in their back home country. Various religious centers in Canada are doing a great job in bringing various cultures including Canadian close to each other by organizing different cultural programs.
Similarly for Muslim community eating out is restricted to certain eating places due to non availability of Halal food in most of the restaurants in Canada. They need to go through the ingredients of every food item not eat anything that uses any animal source in it.
The concept of common law partner in the west is not considered to be illegal but in most of the countries in the other part of the world, it is considered to be illegal so the immigrants need to teach their children specifically about the concept and make them restrict to their own cultural and religious boundaries.
Another problem is the attainment of a job in their professions. Usually their educational background and experience is not considered enough to meet the job requirements and they need to get either certification of equivalent degrees from the Canadian educational institutions and even after that they do not get reasonable jobs related to their professions.
The Canadian society has been kind enough to accommodate most of the issues concerning the cultural differences and they are willing to be aware of the problems faced by the new immigrants and to find the solution to make the adaptation process easy for the new immigrants. On the other side the new immigrants should also try to educate the local people and authorities to take into consideration their limitations and to help them cope with these problems in a fruitful manner.

excessive use of salt in fast food
Today I am going to share latest research news about the salt level in Canadian fast foods. The research published in Canadian Medical Association Journal, looked at the salt content of food items in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, France, the United Kingdom and the United States from six fast food chains. They found that fast food in Canada and the U.S. contained much higher levels of salt comparing to other countries.
I think the consumer should react to this issue to avoid sodium level increase in their bodies. The customer should refuse to take items having much salt in it that will make the fast food owners realize the worse effects of their products on the health of their consumers.

Does Every Child Have the Right to Nature? By Judy Molland

The present web article points towards a very important issue that needs our attention. We usually do not pay attention to the importance of the nature on the growth of our young generation. In this article the author talks about child’s right to access to nature and to grow up in a high quality, wildlife rich environment
None of us will deny this fact that the green environment does not only gives fresh and clean air to breath but also develops creative and positive thinking. In this article it is also mentioned that the access to nature and open environment increases physical activity and reduce obesity. Accessing to the green natural environment enhances children’s self esteem and self confidence and independence. It also mentions some study results showing improvements in memory, concentration and help in social development. In densely populated big cities and towns it is nearly impossible to keep our kids close to such open green environment but frequent tours and visits to the wildlife rich environment can give some chance to the young generation to get acquainted with the free and natural surroundings. In our schools, the children do get chance to have few visits to the nature but these are not enough for their physical and mental requirements. We need to think more about this not only on personal level but also on governmental level.

Insert Clever Blog Title Here: Raising Gangsters for Fun and Profit
This story is quite interesting and important too but I think the password is not the only clue a hacker can use to enter into one’s account. It happened to me even though my password was not common one. Being not very much familiar with the technicalities of the computer, we must have made some mistakes concerning to the security of our account. Actually, we use the web for getting in touch with our friends or others concerned but we don’t realize to whom we are being connected? Are they very reliable to share our personal information? I think one should not trust anyone in this regard. The intentions for further sharing the information to someone else might not be bad but it could happen accidently or by mistake so be careful sharing your personal information with anyone else.
For no particular reason, I decided to go with a Monty Python-inspired title. Yep, I’m out of ideas.
I clearly need to watch the news more, because every week I always struggle to find a news story to comment on.
So this week, I’m commenting on this story, the 25 worst passwords of 2011.

Ukrainian zookeeper to spend five weeks living in lion enclosure

This week, I am sharing a news story that caught my interest for its weirdness. A 40 year man in Ukraine decided to spend five weeks in a cage living with a pair of lions.
Alexander Pylyshenko is the zookeeper and the owner of the zoo in Vasyllivka in Western Ukraine, took a bold decision to spend time with the lions while there is still danger to his life as the animals could be offended any time unexpectedly.
As the lioness is expecting give birth to a cub during Alex’s stay in the cage she might be more over protective of her cub and likely to be dangerous too. Spending 840 hours in five weeks in a totally different and dangerous environment is a courageous decision where he has not made any safety measures in case of any danger. The two lions, Samson and Katya, living in an uncovered enclosure.
We can hope and pray for him as his cause for doing so is to raise money by selling his paintings in the cage for charity. His devotion and sincerity might protect him from wild animals and his good intentions will see a success in future.

My Reflection on My Feature Story:
My experience working on my feature story was quite interesting and difficult as well. I researched on the topic contacting all concerned persons and agencies to make it as detailed as possible.
While working on the story, I had a lot of learning experiences like I learned how to tackle with the technical difficulties while doing the audio and video part of the story. My patience was also on the peak while I was facing the same problem over and over. The audio and video editing was not going well in the beginning and I had to do it for several times. My memory card was giving me problem as well. Then after discussing the problem with the experts, I changed the format from MTS to MP4 that took very long to get adjusted. Due to that conversion, I lost the audio-visual quality of many clips.
All the interviews went well and information needed for the story was obtained without any hindrance. Working on this story, I got chance to get acquainted with the community and got introduced to many people who are doing tremendous job mobilizing the community. I must appreciate the Alison Neighbourhood Community Center’s and Waterloo Police department’s cooperation. -
My coverage of “Power of Hope” for 519 Online News
Two weeks back I was told by my friend about Penny and her organization “Power of Hope” and their amazing work, I got interested and looking for covering the information to let people know about their valuable work. I decided to give coverage to such committed organization on 519 Online News. I called Penny Jamieson, the Executive Director of the organization to get appointment and later interviewed them.
The Power of Hope is a non-profit organization that helps families in need in the counties of Wellington, Perth and Waterloo Region. They provide essential life commodities to the low income families by raising funds organizing different events in the area. They donate items like toiletries, pajamas, towels and stuffed toys to the needy families and women in crises.
After visiting them, I must admire their efforts and hard work and the way they are serving the deserving families with devoted team members. Jamieson informed me that they their work started with Hurricane Katrina. After hearing about the losses faced by the effected families, they start collecting daily use items for the devastating families of New Orleans.
She further informed that in 2008, they floated idea to collect stuffed toys for the needy children so that they could also enjoy their lives. In the following year, 2009, they launched another project named “Sweet dreams”. The idea was to collect new pajamas, sleepers and warm blankets for such deserving families so that they can also have sweet dreams.
In a small town a small organization is doing a very big job serving the unreached. -
Scorpios, Virgos not welcome at company
I found weird news at Toronto Sun website that I want to share. A Chinese employer advertised a job posting in Chutian Metropolis Daily News paper for an unidentified English language training firm. The advertisement clearly mentions that they do not want Scorpions and Virgos for the position as they found them to be aggressive and critical.
The Employing woman identified by her last name as Xia said, these people like to argue with their colleagues or they could not continue for long.
On the other hand, the company gives priority to the Capricorns, Libras and Pisces. The ad does not mention the reason for preferring these zodiac signs.
This is a total injustice and discrimination in the hiring criteria because this criteria has no scientific base and this is not fair to use astrological basis to hire a personnel. It’s actually silly to say I don’t like you because you are a Virgo or so.
Every person has a unique quality and talent to perform certain types of jobs and we should not take into consideration the date of birth or a zodiac sign to perform a job. Even if we go for Zodiac signs, every sign has unique characteristics that can be used to fulfill the job requirements. To be true, this is all useless and the important thing is the qualification and experience that counts.
